What's New at Oxford Veterinary Hospital

Oxford Veterinary Hospital strives to find new ways to make it easier for pet owners to keep their pets healthier.

Visiting surgeon:

Jeff Mayo, DVM, CVLS, Diplomate ABVP recently visited the Oxford Veterinary Hospital to perform TTA (Tibial Tuberosity Advancement) surgery with Dr Mease.  TTA is the latest (and heralded by many as the best) procedure to treat  the common hind leg lameness in dogs caused by a rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL).  Dr. Mayo is a well known expert and teacher of this surgical technique. He teaches and performs surgery throughout the United States and overseas. Dr Mayo recently returned from a 2 week teaching trip to Australia.

Earlier this year Dr Mease completed a TTA course given by Dr Mayo and has equipped the hospital with the necessary specialized equipment.  We thank Dr Mayo for his supervision and assistance in helping us ensure we are providing the best quality care for our patients.

This link allow access to your pets records, check prescriptions, request refills, schedule appointments, check your pets vaccine history, and much more from the comforts of home at any time of the day or night. Our online pharmacy will soon be open where you can purchase flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, Prescription Diets, pet supplies, and medications with the convenience of having them delivered to your home!


Staff Education:

Dr. Mease completed the Master Oral Surgery and Orthopedic Course at the Animal Dental Training Center.  This course focused on the technique for removing oral tumors.  He has also completed a course at the same center that focused on orthodontics and crowns. 

 

Dr Mease also recently completed a training course on Tibial Tuberosity Advancement Surgery, or better known as TTA Surgery.  This procedure in the latest technique for repair of Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture, a very common hind leg injury in dogs.  We have also purchased the specialized equipment needed to perform this operation and are pleased to now be able to offer this surgery to our clients.

 

Oxford Veterinary Hospital considers continuing education of our doctors and staff an important part of bringing the best care to our patients.  One of Dr Mease's favorite sayings is "You are either green and growing or dying on the vine."


In April, our team attended a weekend long continuing education program (CVC  East) in Baltimore, MD.  This program held lectures on varying topics that updated us on the new and improved methods. 


The entire staff attended a day long seminar in May on delivering excellent client service in White Marsh, Maryland.

New Products:

Comfortis:

Comfortis is the first FDA-approved, chewable, beef-flavored tablet that kills fleas and prevents flea infestations on dogs for a full month.  The tablets are beef-flavored which makes them more palatable for our pets.  The pill starts to kill fleas in 30 minutes after giving, which allows it to start killing fleas before they can lay eggs. This pill is demonstrated to be safe for dogs and puppies 14 weeks and older.  

Tartar Shield Rawhide Chews:

These are specially made soft rawhides that "give" when your dog bits into them.  This allows them to be gentle on your dogs teeth, yet clean while chewing.  They are clinically proven to significantly reduce plaque, tartar, gingivitis and bad breath when given one chew a day.  These tasty treats are available in three different sizes.
